Top 10 Cities for Ticket Sales in 2017

We pulled this past year’s data from TicketNetwork’s marketplace to determine the top ten cities that sold the most event tickets in 2017.

It comes as no surprise that NYC was this year’s number one best-selling city. First and foremost, the Big Apple boasts Broadway, which saw huge hits like Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, and Springsteen on Broadway this year. Though the Jets and the Giants play in nearby New Jersey, the Yankees came in second in the AL East this year, just barely missing a shot at the World Series, while the Knicks ranked 5th in attendance for the season that wrapped up earlier this year and stand at 8th in the ongoing season. Then, of course, the city holds some of the most iconic venues in the country – Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, and Carnegie Hall, to name a few.

On the opposite coast, Los Angeles comes in second place – no doubt due in part to the Dodgers making the World Series, losing in Game 7 to Houston, who came in at number 6 on the list. LA hosts not one but two NFL and NBA teams, as well, and sees a stop at the Hollywood Bowl or The Forum by most every major artist’s U.S. tour.

Number three goes to Vegas, also a steady tour stop as well as a consistent home to many established artists; in 2017, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Rod Stewart, and Elton John performed residencies in Sin City. What sales Vegas lacks from not hosting a basketball or football team (though not for long, as the Raiders head to Vegas in 2020), the city was host to the biggest boxing event of the year this summer, Mayweather vs. McGregor, as well as plenty more boxing and UFC fights throughout 2017. Add in nightly concerts, comedy, magic, and Cirque Du Soleil shows and it’s no surprise why Las Vegas was the third best-selling city for event tickets of the year.
