Governors Ball, the annual three-day music festival in New York, will be making a major policy change for its 2020 edition of the event.
Next year, the festival will be open to concertgoers aged 18 and over with proof a valid ID at entry. Those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult that is 21-years-old or older; one adult can company two people under the age of 18, and they must arrive together to enter the festival. Children ages five and under can enter the festival for free with an adult above the age of 21.
The new policy was announced this morning. On the Gov Ball website, a statement reads: “Nothing is more important to us than the quality of the festival experience for each ticket buyer. For this reason, we have decided to change our age policy for the 2020 festival.” Festivalgoers are thrilled with the news, as many cited that last year’s festival was filled with teenagers with fake IDs.
Founders Entertainment co-founders Tom Russell and Jordan Wolowitz explained that “nothing is more important to us than the quality of the festival experience.”
“The changes we are implementing this year come directly from fan feedback and conversation,” the pair said in a statement. “We are always listening, always evolving, and always trying to give our fans and our City the best festival they could ask for.”
In addition to the new age policy, there are new VIP perks and programs. New perks include air-conditioned bathrooms, a private Wi-Fi network, free water, and a separate fast lane at ferry docks and shuttle pick-up points. Additionally, the new “VIP Luxe” program includes regular VIP perks as well as an elevated luxury suite with views of the main stage and field and all-inclusive food and beverage. The festival will also include more water stations for all attendees and implement greater sustainability efforts.
Governors Ball 2020 is celebrating its 10-year anniversary from June 5 to 7 on Randall’s Island. While the lineup will not be announced until early next year, organizers will be revealing some clues in the coming weeks. The 10th edition will reportedly feature acts from 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. Previous performers include Tool, Chance The Rapper, The strokes, Beck, M83, Vampire Weekend, Kanye West, and Guns N’ Roses.
